History

This region is formed by the Biak tribe Numfor of the Raja Ampat Islands, and gave the name of the Mainland Maladum as Soren, in the Biak language Numfor means that in the sea and waves. Then pronounced by Chinese traders and European missionaries as Sorong. 












Government 

Administratively, the city of Sorong consists of 5 districts (equivalent to districts), which Sorong, West shoves, shoves Islands, Sorong East, and North Sorong. Then subdivided the 22 villages are scattered in each district.

Geography 

Sorong topography varies consists of mountains, slopes, hills and partly lowland, east of the jungle surrounded by a protected forest and jungle tours.




Tourism

Sorong city renowned as one of the historical old town with a Dutch-owned oil company Heritage Nederlands Neuw Maschcapeij Guinea (NNGPM). Some other tourist areas are recreational park with the charm of Tanjung Cassowary white sand, including beach areas on Ram Island, Island and Island of Doom Soop. Raja Ampat has been one of the most famous attractions with underwater beauty and its islands.
